What Do You need?

Before you start the learning path, you need some essential stuff to make the journey smooth. The first thing you need is obviously a good quality dirt bike.

The bike must have to function properly and it shouldn’t have any error in any part. The next thing you need to find out is a long and flat surface.

Well, when I am recommending a flat surface, maybe you are wondering why flat surfaces while experts are doing it in even a rough and tough area! Well, they are experts and you are not yet.

The track where you want to learn to do a wheelie should be long and flat. Some people even use the pavement to do a wheelie but it is not much recommended.

Also collect your safety equipment such as the goggles, knee guard, chest guard, etc.

Take Your Seat

To start riding your dirt bike, take the proper position on the seat. Make sure the distance between your sitting position and the handlebar is not too long.

Because when there is too much distance, controlling the bike becomes difficult.

Also, the sitting position needs to be very comfortable so that you don’t feel any stress or tension on your back.

Start Riding Your Bike

Once you have taken the proper position on the seat, you are ready to ride the bike.

Start your bike and move around the place you want to perform a wheelie. Start slowly and find your comfortable speed area.

Now you need to maintain a speed consistency so that it keeps the RPM just before the optimal hit.

To have a constant and the right RPM, I would recommend setting the second gear on your bike. However, you may also choose to use the third gear.

Stand Up

If you already have seen some stunt experts who can perform a wheelie, you may have noticed the standing position.

Though you are new to wheelie, you also have to be in the same position to perform a wheelie.

In the standing position, bend your knees in a comfortable position where your body can balance your weight. Use your feet’s ball to take the weight and make it center if the gravity.

Lean Your Back by Dropping Your Hips

In the standing position, now you will have to lean your body back and drop your hips to balance the weight. This position lets you keep the front off of the ground.

Accelerate Your Bike

Once you have dropped your body weight on the back, now it is time to take the final step for a wheelie.

Accelerate the bike and the front will be in the air instantly. Lean slightly front to balance the bodyweight when the bike’s front is in the air. This allows doing a wheelie with less jerk and throttle.

Maintain the Speed and Throttle

If you have followed the above steps, you are not in the easier step. Now the front of the bike is off of the ground and you are at a constant speed.

At this point, the challenge is keeping the front in air and maintaining the balance.

Don’t try to speed up your dirt bike which can kick you out from the track. Remember that crashing your bike can be too dangerous for you.

Some Additional Tips for the Beginners

You are reading this article means you are a beginner in doing a wheelie with your dirt bike.

So follow the following things to have a smooth stunt –
Doing a wheelie is not related to speeding your bike. Don’t try to hurry and increase speed.

Instead, maintain a constant speed where you can balance the bike as well as your body.

When you are dropping your hips and leaning back, make sure you are not going too far.

Because that can easily crash the bike and you may have severe damage in the back.

The handlebar is not for pulling the front. It is just to control the front. You will perform the wheelie with your body’s balance and the throttle.

It is so common that you are unable to perform a wheelie with your dirt bike for the first time. It requires practice.

Keep someone with you as a helping hand. It will be better if the person has experience with it so that he can instruct you what to do and what not.

Don’t skip wearing your safety equipment. Doing a wheelie with a dirt bike is not like doing it with a mountain bike. Here you will be at a higher speed and accident is not uncommon.

How to Prevent Crashing?

How to Prevent Crashing

If you want to prevent crashing, you must have to choose a smooth surface. Because the smooth surface has less chance of slipping the tires from the ground.

Also, balance your back slowly instead of pushing it instantly. The best way is practicing keeping the body’s balance without doing a wheelie.

When you are comfortable in maintaining the speed of keeping the proper balance, you can avoid crashing the bike.

Final Verdict

If you have gone the steps thoroughly, hope it’s clear how to do a wheelie on a dirt bike. Practice more and more, and become a pro.

To choose a perfect dirt bike, take opinion from experts. You can also read some buying guides online to have a clear concept of this stunt and the type of bike you need.
