How to Clean Carbon Fiber Bicycle?
We are all about keeping things simple and effective. That is why we have tried out different cleaning processes. Eventually, we did manage to find one that is straightforward yet works better than the other ones. Here are all the details regarding that method:
Step 1: Get Yourself the Right Tools and Materials
In order to get the best results, you will need to work with the right tools. And when we are talking about the right tools, we refer to these:
- Soft bristle brush
- Soap
- Warm water
- A bucket
- Bike polish
- Clean rag
- WD 40
- Bike stand
Note that if you have a carbon fiber cleaning product, you can use it instead of soap and water. But if you want to lower the cost of the cleaning process, you should stick with the dish soap and water process.
Step 2: Make a Cleaning Solution
You should prepare a cleaning solution after getting the right tools and materials. For this, you will need a bucket of warm water. Mix the dish soap into the water. Now, if you do not have dish soap with you, you can use any gentle soap.
Step 3: Prepare the Bike and Get the Loose Debris Off
Carefully place the cycle on top of the bike stand. Remember not to clamp the stand to the frame. It will put a scratch on the surface, which will be tough to work with. Instead, use the seat post.
Give the frame a good rinse to get the loose dust and debris off the surface. If you are using a hose, do not put the water flow at the maximum level. Instead, set the flow at the medium settings.
Step 4: Use the Soapy Solution and Give It a Good Clean
Now that the loose debris is off the surface, use the brush to get the stubborn debris and grimes off. On that note, you should not use brushes with wires on them. Those will scratch up the surface. And as you already know by now, scratches are something you will not want on a carbon fiber frame.
Put proper attention to the curves as dirt tends to accumulate in those areas higher than the others. If the soapy solution fails to get grimes off at specific regions, use the WD 40. It is a type of degreaser that can make the tough grimes loose. Use your brush afterward to get the loosened grimes off.
Step 5: Dry the Frame and Shine It
After step 4, you should be over with the cleaning process. Now, use the dry rag and wipe the excess water off the surface. Make sure that you get each of the spots dry before moving further.
Once the frame is dry, use the spray wax or bike polish to give the frame a good shine. Do not use too much of the polish, though. The excess wax or polish will attract dirt.
Final Words
If you know how to clean carbon fiber bike properly, keeping the bicycle in outstanding condition for a long time will become an effortless task. And we can ensure that you will get a good cleaning result after you go through each of the steps we mentioned correctly.
